Never seen Ilia skate, but I never really cared about FS much until I happened to have the TV on when Evgeni performed his LP in Torino.

I forgot about this, and I like it almost as much as the Tosca costume...a prince from a fairy tale:

I think the guys' skating would be a snoozefest without Johnny, Plushy, and Takahashi to keep things fresh and exciting.

You are right, I haven't thought about that. The judges can critisise this cross.
They've already made it clear they don't need him to have tattoos to criticize him or find any excuse they can to punish him because he doesn't kiss their ass, so he might as well do as he likes since it seems they are determined to find fault (or make up imaginary ones) no matter what he does. Same goes for Johnny.
I have no respect or positive thoughts for the judging system because of things they have done to Evgeni, Johnny, and other skaters in recent years, and considering some of their asinine "rules" and opinions. I want Plushy to compete and win, but it's very wrong that any skater should be required to play lapdog to the absurdities of the judging system to do it, and judging a skater negatively for having tattoos (don't forget the sequins!) is beyond absurd because a tattoo has absolutely nothing to do with their talent. Whether or not he decides to show them during comps or whatever is fine with me, it just disgusts me to know it will most likely be a problem for the judges if he wants to.
