Should be happy and because of Plushy's quads, even more ... especially because they are made at his age, which is much higher success than others. :plush41:

This is not about Chan or Evgeni this is about FS´s future. I´ve been watching FS all my life and I´ll keep watching it after Evgeni or Chan are gone for ever.

That means Evgeni can´t be reinstated until june? :plush38: I hope he won´t miss next season too because of ISU councils! :plush30: :plush47:

Chan will never be Plushenko, but does we need to freak out? Let Chan has his road in figure skating, why he has to be compared to Evgeni. Evgeni is Evgeni, there is noone to compare. But that doesnt mean that new skaters cant be coming and are talented as well. Plushy has been competing for 3 different generations, it is normal some new athletes that are realy good to appear just as like evgeni appeared when he was 15 and shadowed the oldies.
Nobody can take away Plushenko from his legandary status, no matter how many talents will appear after.

That´s true, Mishin himself said Chan and japanese skaters were young geniuses, did he offend Evgeni? We have to pray now that Plushy stays healthy until Sochi, Chan is my last concern. :plush47:

Nationals: Ladies Short Program Results and First Impressions

I'm going to focus on the top seven tonight because they all skated pretty well and really stuck out for me.

Ashley Wagner: Wagner had some trouble on the landing of the triple flip and was unable to tack on the combination. She added it to the triple lutz, but she two-footed the lutz. Then she had a bit of a shaky landing on her double axel. Very unfortunate, possibly due to having the flu, but who knows. I thought she did a great job performing the program. And after a night of watching a lot of immature performers, Wagner looked very polished and I really enjoyed watching it. Sad about the jumps, but on a night like tonight, no room for so many errors. She's in seventh with a 54.63...not looking great for a medal but don't count her out.

Vanessa Lam: I know I've seen Lam before but I haven't seen much of her. She really impressed me tonight. What a nice style and she actually made me sit on the edge of my seat and take notice. She's way more mature on the ice than her 15 years. Just a lovely presence and what a great performance tonight...deserved the standing ovation she got. And she's only in sixth! That's how good the skating was. 57.61

Christina Gao: Well, Gao starts right off with a much more mature look than last season. I think it really works for her. She's looking so much more grown up and she's got her hair up in a bun and some bangs action going on. And she hit a triple lutz/triple toe loop. That was impressive. She's still got issues such as posture and her double axel was lucky to land, but great job overall. Would love to see more speed/energy in her footwork but I'll take that triple lutz combo any day. 58.43, fifth place.

Agnes Zawadzki: I have to say, I just love seeing Agnes perform this short program. She's just so adorable in her ridiculous outfit being all sassy. And she kills it! Triple/triple was beautiful, as were the rest of the jumps. She's young but she's got so much energy. Just fun to watch. I hope she can have a good free skate. 61.54, fourth place.

Rachael Flatt: Ok, so it was more difficult for me to watch Flatt skate to this East of Eden music than I expected it to be. At any rate, I rate it as a vast improvement over her other short program. I think she skated those jumps fabulously (although, why not go for the triple/triple!? She would easily have been in first). I think she performed the heck out of the program, particularly attacking the step sequence. But.. during the step sequence there did appear to be some flailing (my innocent bystander non-blogger friend's words, not mine!), although I don't think it was actually flailing, I think it was the choreography, and way too much arm movement. And the fact that she outscored Czisny on program components is confusing, but she did seem to have more emotion than Czisny, who is much calmer. And she really sold the heck out of the program. So perhaps that helped propel her over. At any rate, I think third is just about right, and remember, Flatt went from third to first at last year's nationals. 62.32.

Alissa Czisny: Czisny as beautiful and understated, as she tends to be. She had a bit of a tight landing on her double axel but overall just a beautiful performance and so happy she skated clean. Not much more to say - her spins are amazing, one of the top two spinners in the competition. She did not have the attack that Rachael Flatt had, but that's not really her style. It's soclose! 62.50.

Mirai Nagasu: The short program queen lays down another one, and charms the press with her made for tv one-liners. Nagasu was Nagasu the great tonight. She was adorable and absolutely elegant with everything and did not make any mistakes that I could see. She even made me like her short program more! Crazy. I hope she can hold it together and maybe even throw out a triple/triple on Saturday. 63.35.

Bradley stuns field with short program win at Nationals
http://www.examiner.com/figure-skating- ... z1COdcyg1B

The men’s short program at the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships was full of surprises today, as neither of the pre-competition favorites took the lead. It was 2007 U.S. silver medalist Ryan Bradley, after missing the Olympics last year by one spot, who took the lead heading into the free skate ahead of defending champion Jeremy Abbott. Four Continents champion Adam Rippon finds himself in a disappointing ninth place.

Bradley opened with a quad toe-triple toe and never looked back, hitting a clean program. After taking the Grand Prix series off, he is fresh and ready to go in his competitive debut this season. He grabbed the lead with a score of 80.39, three points ahead of Abbott. Abbott skated a clean short as well, though his technical base value was lower than that of Bradley without the quad combination. A few lower levels on his spins also prevented him from taking the top spot going into the free skate.

A rejuvenated Brandon Mroz is third after some trouble with his quad combination, the backend of which was a double toe instead of a triple toe. He is well behind the two leaders, however, trailing Abbott by over six points.

The next eight skaters are separated by just over five points, with favorites bunched up against relative newcomers. 2009 junior silver medalist Keegan Messing is in fourth, just ahead of Douglas Razzano, and 2009 junior champ Ross Miner. Skate America bronze medalist Armin Mahbanoozadeh is in eighth after falling on a downgraded triple lutz. Rippon struggled with both his triple axel and his triple lutz, and currently stands in ninth.

--------------------------

US Nationals Mens Short Running Thoughts
http://www.flutzingaround.com/2011/01/u ... nning.html

Adam Rippon- Well, this is really something. The trek he's taken this year from the Japan Open (where he bested Takahashi and Plushenko in that free skate) to Skate Canada, to Skate America, to now, has been such a drop in confidence and spark. Axel leaned from the beginning and he stepped out, not a huge error but you almost saw it coming from the moment he started. Lutz, hard fall straight back-- I haven't ever seen him miss that jump, or at least in the last few years. The spins and the general program were so lackluster, but I've never really liked it. Skating after Messing and the energy he created didn't help, either. By the way, Brian Orser looks like he's put on some holiday weight.

Brandon Mroz- This is just a case of wrong packaging for me. You can see even in the preparation seconds before he started his program that his posture is way below the general quality of American men, and he has a really reserved style to his skating, yet he is skating to some Ryan Bradley-esque music. While he had moments of fun choreography, he still has a general tenseness and seriousness that make him a bit boring. Quad was there today, even if there was a bit of a fight, as were the rest of the jumps, and he had really nice camel positions-- one of the few I think we'll see. I question whether his change sit position was low enough.. it seemed slightly high. He's been top ten in the world before so he's not new to this, but I wish he'd just break loose and add some excitement to his skating.
....

Jeremy Abbott- Oh, those arms. You know I think they look silly. But what I can appreciate is the choreography right into all of his jumps and the way this program built-- finally I see the good in it, I guess! What I didn't like so much was the ending cross-foot spin on the sit/change/sit-- I wouldn't consider it low enough to count and the position is just ugly. Also ugly is the flying upright spin, which goes down almost into an intermediate sit spin to begin (which helps the wind-up, but still..). I hope the ISU drops the option to do a flying upright spin after this season and everyone just has to suffer through doing a camel position in either the sit/change/sit or flying spin. Overall, though, I really enjoyed him.. tenseness and all. It works here.

Douglas Razzano- The Feeling Begins. Triple Axel didn't have much height compared to distance but it was one of the better so far. Quad toe! That was surprising, and kept up the speed out of it. Triple toe/triple toe- why not something more difficult? Maybe he wanted to play it safe after the first two elements. Two spins back to back.. both average. This is such good music but I really think it's only been done well a few times, Oksana Baiul among them. Most other times, like here, it's usually some generic choreography and the program itself is based on the music building so strongly. Final combination spin was nice. He's thrilled slash looks shocked with his effort! 40 points for technical-- best so far. I do agree with him going behind Messing, though.

Ice resurfacing. Second half will be in a new post.

US Nationals Mens Short Running Thoughts - Second Half
http://www.flutzingaround.com/2011/01/u ... um=twitter

Here we go again. Ryan Bradley is back.. just saw a quad toe from him in the warm-up.

Ryan Bradley- First competition of the season. Quad toe/triple toe looked really wound up, I don't know that it really was a full four rotations but I bet he'll get credit for it. Triple Axel is well done. Camel/change/camel-- one of the few skaters who has been doing these his whole life and hasn't had to 'relearn' the camel for this years rule changes. Still, not amazing positions on his spins.. story of his career. Triple flip out of footwork. Flying sit with variations.. the beginning traveled. I really think he could skate to the most boring music ever and the crowd would still go crazy over the way he carries himself and sells the skate. Footwork for him always tries to have fun choreography that masks how weak he really is on the element.. I'd say that's level 2 at best. Aside from his so-so spins and lack of difficult footwork, his problem has always been the speed. Here, I didn't really notice it as much. Well done, I'm happy he's had a successful return. I just wish he would have addressed all of his weaknesses much earlier in his career. I saw him live at Nationals in 2000 in his senior debut and he was bringing down the house even back then. Quad toe was just fine in replay.

Over 7 for components? I really do like him a lot, but his skating skills, transitions, difficulty in choreography, and overall polish are nowhere near many of these men. It's US Nationals, though..
.....
So Ryan Bradley leads the way after the short program. Who would have known? He skated well, but I never really understand why National federations really push skaters up when the international judges won't be as generous with scores. I really doubt Ryan would be able to receive a 7.0 average on components from the ISU, but who knows.. Ross Miner makes the final group
