Yes, your translation is correct. In China many skating fans also call him Plu-emperor. Though in media they still tend to call him the Ice prince. :-)

Actually "Plu god" is not that so often used :mi_ga_et: (this might be the first time I heard it) . The most often used word for him is Plu-emperor or "old"-artist (not that he is old, but kind of referring to his outstanding artistry part). :-)

I agree with Anna, maybe Mishin didn't want Evgeni to have a program similar to Hanyu's who set a world record. I have to check which program is better, but I think Evgeni would have been able to skate it as well as Hanyu did.

From COP friendly points of view, Hanyu's program is no doubt better. He put two jumps in the second half. At the best COP version of Plushy's he only had one jump in the second part. And the one he was showing on JO GALA had 3 jumps all in the first part.

From performance point of view, Hanyu and Plushy have very different style, but to be honest, I think Plushy's performance is far better than Hanyu's. Hanyu in my opinion is too young to skate Blue. But it is purely my own opinion and I am heavily bias when comes to the artistry part of the program. ::yaz-yk:

:plush38: I think that one of the reason because they cancelled 'the Prophet', which in my opinion is a stunning music, is because Hanyu is using a Gary Moore melody this year in his sp. And remember he set a new world record with his performance. By the way, he is Japanese, but he actually hasn't any problem with the music.

Actually, if I remember correctly, Evgeni and Mishin decided to go with Storm pretty soon after the JO, before the GP series started (i. e. before Hanyu set his SP world record)? He was already skating Storm at the KOI on October 13-14. In any case, Hanyu is a wonderful young skater, and of course we don't know all of the factors involved in Evgeni's and his team's decision, but on the surface of it, I still doubt that Evgeni needed to "avoid" having a similar type of music as Hanyu (or any other skater, really). After all, when it comes to performance and other "artistic" aspects, I still maintain that Evgeni is far more mature.



I agree with you. But actually when I think about it, it probably would be wise not to use similar music as Hanyu in this season. Purely from strategy point of view. I am not saying they changed it because of it since he stop skating it after JO (actually he has only skated them in Italy shows (damn you lucky Italians) and JO GALA). But as Hanyu keeps getting record points for his blue SP, and he is actively competing, meaning showing it repeatedly to the viewers, it is not to Plushy's advantage to skate a very similar music choice (I mean, it is really very very similar at the beginning part of the music, and in general of course very similar style) anyway.

I like "Snow"!!! Can he choose snow or "give it to me" for his Olympics SP or LP?? (OK, I am just dreaming) :-)

I think somewhere (probably on VK group) there is such discussion, but unfortunately I did not find it. But nevertheless, I will post some of my thoughts here.

Part 1 (I am still blogging so it will be several parts :-) , I will either post as a new post or simply editing this one)
I am relatively new to figure skating and probably will stop watching it after Plushenko leaves the competitive ice, so I will define myself as a layman to figure skating. I love Plushenko’s skating purely because his skating moves me in some way. And I believe that I am not alone on this.

It is by chance that I start watching figure skating. I remembered when I was young, when Lu Chen was still competing, I enjoyed watching lady’s figure skating on TV. But I was never a fan. Due to my study schedule, I did not pay any attention to winter games. So I was totally indifference towards Winter Olympics 2010.

One of my colleague is from Russia and we shared the same bus to the office, so figure skating became a topic during the period of 2010 Olympics. And that was first time I have learned the name “Plushenko” :smu:sche_nie: .

IMO, Tango Amore is not Plushenko’s best program. But judging from what I saw, Plushenko shown better control of his blades over other skaters. He was playing with his blades, having fun, and so passionate comparing to others. I felt that he was in another level. By then, I still did not know anything about him except that he should be a big name in that Sports. He lost to Evan Lysacek with very small margin that night. But I took notice to his skating, not other skaters.

It was the exhibition Je Suis Malade blown me away, or made me a fan forever :mi_ga_et: . That particular performance was so emotionally powerful and beautiful, I could not bring myself to re-watch it in quite a long time since it is heart brokenly sad :ny_tik: . No one can provoke so strong emotion in me before, and if that is not an art, I do not know what art is.

From that day on, I am a faithful fan to Plushenko’s skating.

Part 2

As I said that I do not find Tango Amore one of Plushenko’s best program. However, he is very special in a way that even if the program itself is not very good, you will still glue your eyes on him. Some people say that is Charisma.

Recently I have read a nice article about “Charisma” , the things described there may well be used to describe the feelings I had when watching Plushenko’s skating. Theory aside, it is very simple: I am touched by his passion, the energy and the inner elegance he possesses.

Plushenko’s skating is very elegant. Probably come from his ballet training that is why he can skate to the program such as “tribute to Nijinsky”. I watched almost all his programs/shows on the youtube, and went to watch two shows of him. Believe me, you really need to watch him live to be able to know the difference. He is very good on videos, but is just great live. He can be spotted right on whenever he enters the rink. The movements are so graceful yet powerful. You can feel the power, the emotion, the energy. I never experience such feelings when watching other skaters’ skating.

And I love the smile from Plushenko when he finishes his skating and bows to the audience :plush31: . He looks so young, so grateful and so happy :son-ce: . He loves skating. He loves to perform for his fans.

Plushenko exceeds his expectations at Russian Nationals

Evgeni Plushenko has taken the first step towards winning his tenth national title at the 2013 Russian National Figure Skating Championships in Sochi. He won the Men’s Short Program event by finishing four points ahead of Sergei Voronov. Maxim Kovtun is currently third.

On the paper, Plushenko’s performance does not look all that impressive: only a quad-double combination and no level four spins or step sequences. In reality however, it was a powerful reminder that no matter how many competitions he misses, the 2006 Olympic Champion still remains one of the most steadfast and reliable competitors, capable of enchanting the audience by the sheer strength of his personality.

Despite much publicized collaboration with Kenji Myamoto and Pasquale Camerlengo this summer, Plushenko’s program set to a tango arrangement of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons was not markedly different from his previous routines. Some will most likely revel in this fact, while others will undoubtedly point out all well-known flaws.

However, according to the skater, doing even that much was a challenge.

“It went very decently. I am quite happy with the job I have done,” he said about his performance. “Tomorrow will be another day, though, so it is too early to celebrate. I still have to skate well tomorrow.”

“Naturally, there are things which I could have done better in the short program,” he admitted, “but overall I am satisfied that I have landed the quad.

“I have only resumed doing quads here in Sochi,” he explained. “A month ago, I underwent a surgery and it resulted in a major drop in my physical conditioning. So it was only here, basically yesterday and today, that I managed to land a first couple of quads. I am especially happy that I did it, even though I failed to land a clean one during the warm up.”

“I have decided not to risk going for a quad-triple even though I could have done it,” the 30-year-old added. “I think I have fulfilled all my goals for today. I am very happy.”

The judges were obviously happy with his performance as well. He posted 91.66 (44.83/46.85) points and did not receive a program component score below 9.00, picking up three 10.00 for Performance/Execution, Choreography and Interpretation from one of the judges. The student of Alexei Mishin credits intense training early in the season for his recent bout of health issues.

“I have attempted too many jumps early in this season,” Plushenko stated. “I started to land quad Salchows, begun working on the quad Lutz… I am not young any longer.”

“Truth to be told, I have already forgotten when I competed healthy,” he lamented. “Fortunately, I know pretty well how to skate while injured, through pain. I have year of experience in tolerating it.”

“For me it was my maximum,” he added. “Initially, the plan has been to deliver the same content as the one I had in Sheffield, which was a triple Axel, triple Lutz – triple toe loop combination, and triple loop. But I managed to land a couple of quads here and it told me that I am borderline ready for it. So we have decided to attempt a quad. It was a risk, but we have decided to go for it.”

The skater remains vague about his plans for the rest of the season.

“For me the most important season is the next one,” he claims. “Everything else is transitory. I do not want to get ahead of myself. If I am healthy enough I will compete at the European Championships and then we will see. May be I will make a trip to London too.”

Regarding the jumping layout, yes, it was 4-4, if you think back, in the test skate and JO, it was 6-2 :-) He works so hard despite the injuries and age :co_ol: Cannot not loving him :smu:sche_nie:

In one of the interview (reported here: http://winter.sport-express.ru/figureskating/reviews/27399/ cekoni posted above;D), he said he has two versions of LP, one of them having 70% jumps in the second half. :mi_ga_et: He is well aware of the rules and try his best to adapt himself. I admire him for his will of steel and pray for his health :plush47:

The quad was a bit two footed so minus GOE (although I could not see it since it was very fast and no real close-up shot at the feet :hi_hi_hi: )

I want to say these to Evgeni:

When you are healthy, you are unreachable, so, please, be well first, then go into the battle. There is no time for another sturbon mistake as starting training before fully recover your body. Please listen to the doctors and allow the body to heal.

You are a great champion, I saw you fought till the end in that short program. Everything is a blur to me now but the determination and energy you shown out there.

I will never forget your smile when you thanked the audience after the program. Keep smiling please, knowing that there are fans all over the world supporting you and praying for you. We torned only because we know you are not well. We could not release the pain for you, but please keep our good wishes in mind, we will support you to the end and love you forever!!

My report (only the part till the SP :mi_ga_et: )

The trip was meant to be an adventure. Everything seems a blur now. The weather in Zagreb was especially terrible on the 24th of January. This is my birthday but really everything went wrong. :plush27:

In the morning when I arrived at the practice rink the training has already started (ok, just started since cekoni had chance to talk to Evgeni). I was waiting for my coffee when Mishen came and ordered a big cup of coffee, "big cup of coffee, big cup!!" It is so unreal to see the great Mr. Mishin is standing in front of me. I have always thought that he resembled my grandfather a lot, in person he is shorter than I expected but very cheerful. Shame that I could not talk to him since I was in awe...... :sh_ok:

The practice rink is COLD and DARK. The condition is terrible. None of the skaters did very well there including Evgeni. I brought my video camera with me so most of the time I was filming, only one or two glance when Evgeni was doing something on ice not involving moving around very fast. The jumps were not great in the practice, but seeing him on ice was just a great experience, he was so beautiful to watch, the movements were incredibly elegant. The short program competition was in the afternoon so he only practiced a bit short program. He was not in good shape jump-wise, but the mood was light. :co_ol:

After his training session, he stood with Vitaly at the side of the rink watching the next group's warm-up. Fernandez was in that group and he tried to make combo jumps in front of Evgeni at least two times, but fell down two times. And the jumps he made during the practice in general were not good. :plush34:

I went with Maolmi, Oleg and Wachiko with the bus running between the practice rink and the main rink. When I got on to the bus, I looked around quickly and did not see Evgeni. On the way to the main rink, the bus had an accident with a truck. I think it was the mirror hitting the truck but did not cause any damage (I guess). Then we found out, we were in the same bus with Evgeni!! :plush33: He must have had his hat on when we first got on the bus (he wore it when he was watching the next group practice), now from behind (four of us sitting at the end of the bus) I can see his golden hair shining in the front row.

We decided to check the banner the organizer promised to hang in the rink so we went directly to the rink. Inside the pairs were practicing for the free skates in the evening. Probably because there were not a lot of people the security checked the tickets very carefully (damn...). We could not sneak in section D anymore like I did the previous night for the pair short programs. So we entered section A.

The banner was hanged very high, very hard to find :plush43: . It is not a good sign since Evgeni likes to see the banners in the arena. I stayed to occupy good seats so I watched the whole pair practice and most of the men short programs.

Evgeni was the first high level skater to skate (3rd group Nr. 17 skater), he looks quite serious during the warm-up and did a beautiful 3A. When he took the ice, the whole arena cheered for him. I mean the previous skater was still waiting for the result and Evgeni was on ice for warm-up the arena was alive with his presence. :mi_ga_et:

The program started but he almost fell on the first jump (3Luz) :plush27: . Then he started his signature jump 3A, when he fell down everybody was in shock :sh_ok: . Then people started clapping encouraging him to continue :bra_vo: . He then did a perfect 3L3T (the GOE should be +3, it was perfect) :co_ol: . Audience clapped with the music and went a bit wild when he started his step sequence. He was on fire :du_el: , fought for every movements. The emotion, the energy, the determination were unbelievably alive :son-ce: .

When he finished his program, many people gave him standing ovation. He lit up the arena even though it was not his best performance. With beautiful smile, he bowed to the audience. He might have some tears in his eyes because he was so grateful for the supports from the audience. :a_g_a:

We clapped and clapped, waving Russian flags plush48 . The Italian girls and Greek fans also made a lot of noise down in the D section :co_ol: .

I stayed in the bar and did not watch the final group. Not because I was afraid that they could overtook his points since his points was very low according to his standard. I stayed out because I have no interests in others. I like men skating only because of Evgeni, he is a dancer on ice, a real artist. I have more interests in pairs than other men. Of course I also plan to cheer for Liza.

When the competition was finished, I learned that he was at the sixth place. I was not particularly worried since anyway it is very difficult to get gold with 14 points behind, but a shot to podium is still possible because Swan is a very beautiful program and can blow people away with its elegance.

The weather was even worse than in the morning. In the morning it was windy and raining. Now it was snow storm!!! All of us were bit upset: strangely I did not feel anything, I mean I was not disappointed, I was not worried, even the speculation about his withdrawing was not shock to me. OK I spent a lot for this trip and it was my birthday, but I had it perfectly: I watched him fought to the end, I gave the support as a fan to him when he needed the most. He was incredibly beautiful out there, this would not be the only competition I would watch. I am sure of it.

The only thing worried me was that he said that he would fought to the end and prepared to any results, if he withdraw now, media would portrait him as coward. Which turned out exactly like that (from haters of course), who cares who won the short competition, Plushenko withdrew from competition was THE news.

Media really made a fuss about him "in tears" in K&C, WTF, why other skater can be sad, mad, angry after a disappointed performance, but expect him to smile all the way? He smiled, beautifully when he finished the program. With that smile he bowed to the audience. He smiled in the K&C when he realized he was on the screen. He is strong, he did not want people to worry. Isn't that enough for a great champion to offer to people when he was not in a good day?

After that performance, I was waiting for taxi at the 4 point Sheraton. I overheard a group children discussed about the competition. They said, "I like Plushenko!" Even he skated far below his standards, the children who were not influenced by the media and not biased said that they love Plushenko's skating. That meant something, isn't it?

As a fan I could feel the excitement of those people who wished him down for so many years, I experienced the feeling of one moment you were a king, after just one bad competition people treat you like you were past tense. That is just so ironic. Just like what happened in 2005.

Remember this is Plushenko you were bashing, the critics only makes him stronger. He will recover from all these and become even stronger than before. He does not need to prove himself anymore, but this gives him motivation, he will feel the need to prove that he is better than this.

I am looking forward to his next battle, because his competition history has that pattern: he would reborn to a higher level. plush48
