Team Event Qualifications Enter Final Stretch Grand Prix Final 3 Weeks Away

Trophee Eric Bompard crowned champions today in all four disciplines. For most nations, point totals are mostly locked in at this point of the season and today’s results held little significance to their team standing.

One such example is the winning performance of Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir. Their win today will qualify them to the Grand Prix Final, but they already put the maximum 400 points on the board for their prior win at Skate Canada. Similar situations apply with the Russian ladies, among others.

Next week brings the Rostelecom Cup, the final Grand Prix before the Grand Prix Final. The Grand Prix Final will offer one last chance to increase team point tallies and change rankings, particularly amongst the top three nations of Canada, United States, and Russia, all of whom will have a healthy-sized group at the final.

The ten teams mathematically guaranteed to qualify are:
Canada, United States, Russia, Italy, France, China, Germany, Japan, Ukraine, and Great Britain.
The final official team qualification results will be published by the ISU at the conclusion of the ISU Senior Grand Prix Final in December.

МОСКВА, 19 ноя - Р-Спорт. Вопрос о возможности замены российского одиночника после командного турнира на зимних Олимпийских играх в Сочи принципиально решен, заявил генеральный директор Федерации фигурного катания на коньках России (ФФККР) Валентин Писеев.

В мужском одиночном катании на Олимпийских играх в Сочи Россию представит только один участник. По нынешнему регламенту в командных олимпийских соревнованиях должен выступать тот же фигурист, который заявлен в личных.

"Информация такая есть, что Международный союз конькобежцев (ISU) обратился в МОК с просьбой, чтобы были запасные спортсмены, - сообщил Писеев на пресс-конференции в РИА Новости. - Нас информировали, что вопрос решен. Официальной бумаги на данный момент у нас нет, но мы уверены, что она будет".

"Таким образом, мы сможем после командных соревнований выставить запасного фигуриста в личном турнире", - добавил гендиректор ФФККР.

MOSCOW, December 5 (R-Sport) - Foreigners wishing to attend the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics will have simplified visa procedures to negotiate, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

Most foreigners need tourist visas to enter Russia, but those with Olympic tickets will be granted access to special "Olympic windows" at Russian embassies and consulates around the world, the ministry said.

Sochi visitors will not need to provide confirmation of a hotel booking as is usually the case, and they will be exempt from waiting in regular visa lines, the ministry said.

President Vladimir Putin in May signed a decree waiving the visa requirement entirely for athletes and their accredited entourages.

Thousands of visitors from all over the world are expected to descend on the Black Sea resort for the February 7-23 Olympics, Russia's first-ever Winter Games.
