Evgeny Plushenko: While athletes and coaches will be silent, nothing can be changed

Image

Russian coaches are leaving to work abroad, athletes do not see the money which are given for the development of figure skating. With his comments to Radio Vesti FM - Olympic silver medalist in Vancouver figure skater Evgeni Plushenko.

Vesti FM: Evgeni, hello! There have been reports that you have decided to sell the car, gift from the President, because you need money to prepare for the upcoming season. Is this true?
- Plushenko: First of all, I want to thank our state, Dmitry Medvedev, Vladimir Putin, the Fund for the Olympians, for such generous gifts. I really want and intend to serve and compete for another 4 years to the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014 and made the decision: Yes, this gift from the government I have decided to exchange for money and this money will be spent on costumes, to pay coaches, choreographers, coach PFD, I think it is reasonably, because I want to bring Russia more medals.

Vesti FM: Tell me, can you disclose such financial details: in general, how much money should be in full preparation for the Olympic Games?
- Plushenko: I think that is for everyone differently.

Vesti FM: Well, for you, specifically?
- Plushenko: There is a component of medicine, there are coaches on the PFD, there is rehabilitation, there are coaches and choreographers, a choreographer who puts the program, there are other choreographers who are constantly working with me. I think that each team, have different situations. If we expect any medals, it is, of course, huge, huge cost. I can not now specifically to give a figure, I think it would be wrong, but this is a huge, huge money. If we take the football or hockey, it is natural, for figure skating it is much less money.

Vesti FM: In Yakutsk are presented the "People's Gold Medal", which intend to deliver to you. Tell me how you feel about it, and will you go to get her?
- Plushenko: You know, thank you very much to all fans and all fans of figure skating, I feel this support is from the people, just from the people. Thanks a lot for this medal, to me it is very nice, and I'm ready, once again I say, ready to continue to compete. And many thanks to Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, who congratulated me, and said that for us it's not silver, for Russia this is gold... and you know, after that, I want still to skate, compete, train and seek gold, real gold medals.

Vesti FM: You know, we discussed with the listeners on the air, after passed your performances, what happened to you, and your second place. Some pitied you and say that it is unfair, other listeners said that you not were 100% showed for all you capable. You are with this point of view agree?
- Plushenko: Well, I've watched several times my programs, and think that I skate very good, I've all done in the programs what was planned, and I think that spend too much time on this story is not necessary, they gave me a second place, so this mean - someone need gold medal more than me.
Once again I want to say that I have many medals, and gold and silver, not should be worry, must continuing fight, must defend my position, must work hard for country, my country. So, I even no longer want to return to the theme, it's already history. It should be forget, and with the new cool head open a new chapter of life and go, continue working.

Vesti FM: And one more question: Alexei Mishin said that can not compare you and those, who do not have name, no titles - I'm just quoting. About you, he said that you could row money with shovel, if you have not gone to the Olympics, but since you've decided to return on competition, to you should compensate material losses. Do you agree? Well, obviously we are talking about Russian fans, and of Russia as a state, that to you must compensate those losses which you carries, because you remain in sports and not doing commercial shows.
- Plushenko: I have said many times, that in figure skating is investing a lot of money, but this money simply do not see athletes and coaches, so I think that athletes should be titled to receive the normal money, right money. Coaches, who bring multiple Olympic champions, world champions, too, should receive the normal money, and not to move, because of a desperate situation abroad and train our rivals. If we take now, how many of our coaches went abroad, we can look at the Olympic Games, World Championships, how much now our Russian coaches will go with foreigners. And why did they go away? Because they offer the normal conditions, the right conditions. Maybe it's not some fabulous money, but normal, to live, to feed their families. There is a correct attitude towards these people - to the coaches. Here we must first of all with this, probably, to start.

Vesti FM: Evgeni, tell me, these problems were known and before the Olympics. Why you talk only after her, that money goes into the unknown?
- Plushenko: I think it is well known for over 30 years. I just many called the "silent type", and this is a great coaches, a great specialists. Not all athletes can open mouth and say that there are problems, and, apparently, not all coaches are willing and ready to talk that there are difficulties and have problems. But while they not talk about it, nothing can be changed.

Well, this is actually "Post-Olympic turmoil" ... and more about money and upcoming shifts... :mi_ga_et: Text about Piseev, the current (outgoing) president of Russian Skating Federation (which is already its president... about 20 years, I think :plush38: ) and his statement...

Among the Russian sports officials begin cleaning. To President Medvedev ahead separate managers-professionals from the "fat cats"... March 26th game of cat and mouse run out: Medvedev will hold a meeting of Sochi Sports Council. Without jobs will remain presidents, at least, three or four sports federations.....

... Last week, the figure skater Evgeni Plushenko told to President Medvedev, that he was preparing for own money, and federation did not help to him.

"It's because he did not sign a contract with us" - explains Piseev. According to him, early last year, Plushenko was still ready for dialogue. "I said: we can pay you 50.000-70.000. He asks: Dollars? We - rubles, of course. And he refused, "- recalls Piseev.

He is not really surprised by this reaction: it seems that the enemies were everywhere. :-) Irina Rodnina, advised to drive the head of the federation as soon as possible. Then connected it and Plushenko.

"What harm have I done to them? According to international rules, I could take 10% of the contract Plushenko with Oriflame - but I did not do it", - says Piseev. Moreover, he continues, the federation helped to Plushenko's coach Alexei Mishin - he was paid with more than 30.000 rubles per month.
"Nothing helped. Plushenko after the Olympics ran from me like the devil from holy water "- upset Piseev. :hi_hi_hi:

Plushenko speaks about his decision to not compete at World Championship in Turin, Italy

Plushenko: I want to make people happy and no one will stop me

Turin Olympic champion figure skater Evgeni Plushenko said that not participating in World Championship 2010 was a difficult decision for him.

"After the Olympics I wanted to skate a program that included two quadruple toe loop jumps, but I exerted myself too much during practice ... Just now I was in Turin and I drove near the palace, where I had won the European Championships, the Olympic Games. Do you really think it is possible that I did not want to compete at the 100th World Championship in my favorite city? Of course I wanted to! I feel a little offended when people say that I was afraid to go there. I was looking forward to that competition, I practiced, but when out of ten attempts to jump a quadruple I began to succeed only twice ...

Do you think the Russian [Figure Skating] Federation did not pressure me to compete at the World Championship? But there was the verdict of the doctors, stating that I can not put pressure on my right leg, I can not jump quad and three and a half turns axel's. I have been pressured to compete before: at the the World Championship in 2005. Back then I had had two operations on the inguinal rings. And I still went to the Championship, doctors gave me a shot and I skated qualifications round and the short program. But now I do not want to put an end to my skating career because of one Championship.

How will I recover? Of course, I will gather a team of the best specialists that do surgeries for athletes - the stars of football, hockey. I will ask them to do everything possible, so that I can skate for another four years. I will make every effort to recover faster. May 1st I will meet with doctors in Munich. There are problems with my achilles, there are problems with the meniscus, with a cruciate ligament. But these can be fixed.

I better do it now, so I skate at the Olympic Games in Sochi. I understand that to skate in four years will be insanely hard. Young athletes are rising up. For example, Artur Dmitriev, Jr., who is training with Alexei Nikolaevich Mishin, yesterday skated with three quadruple jumps. The sport is moving forward ... So it will not be easy for me. But I have missed three and a half years of skating before and I know how to return from that. Especially now, I will continue to skate. I will work with new specialists, including for choreography. There will be new coaches for general physical training. I know that I'm not the only one who needs this, and I'm not staying in the sport for nothing. I want to make people happy, and no one will stop me.

Valentin Piseev, the head of Russia's Figure Skating Federation, announced that he will leave his post of President after new elections are held on June 4th, 2010. Valentin Piseev is the man who has been heavily criticized and blamed for refusing to defend Plushenko, when Plushenko was scored unfairly at Olympics 2010 in Vancouver.

Valentin Piseev Falls From From Power
Image

Head of Russia's Figure Skating Federation could not withstand criticism and leaves his post

A most experienced sports official Valentin Piseev became the seventh victim of the failure of Russia's national team at the Olympics-2010. President of Russia's Federation of Figure Skating has worked at his post 21 years, but, like many of his colleagues, he did not withstand the barrage of criticism after his return from Vancouver. The initiative to change the government in Russia's figure skating came from the top. It became clear after Piseyev was excluded from Russia's President's [Dmitri Medvedev's] Board of Physical Culture and Sports. Kremlin sent word about this just a few hours after the functionary announced his intention to leave the seat in the [Figure Skating] Federation.

Financial matters

"In accordance with the decision of the Executive Committee of March 18, a report and elections conference of Russia's Figure Skating Federation will be held on June 4, 2010," - quoted Piseyev the official Federation website. - "At that conference governing bodies of the Federation will be elected to a new four-year term." Piseev will not apply for re-election to the post of President in the Federation - said the official website. Functionary Piseev, who in September of this year will celebrate his 69th birthday, became the head of Russia's Figure Skating Federation in 1992, and before that he headed the Figure Skating Federation of the USSR since 1989. After the Olympics in Vancouver Piseev was criticized for the poor performance of Russia's figure skaters and was considered one of the first candidates for dismissal on the basis of the Olympic Games.

After the Olympic Games-2010 attack on Piseyev unfolded on several fronts. In the role of his main critics were the star Russian athlete Evgeni Plushenko and the famous coach Elena Chaikovskaya. And Plushenko found an opportunity to complain about his boss in person to President Dmitry Medvedev. The most painful were allegations of financial mismanagement. Plushenko has hinted that the money allocated for training for the Olympics did not reach athletes and disappeared in an unknown directions. This led Piseev to make angry denial and even to disclose specific numbers of cash payments to athletes and coaches in the Olympic season.

Ice Age

But the extraordinary excuse did not save the most experienced functionary because the main ally of Piseyev, President Leonid Tyagachev of the Olympic Committee of Russia, was also named as one of the perpetrators of the debacle in Vancouver and this time there was nobody else to stand up for on behalf of the country's principal skater [Plushenko]. At the Olympics-2010, Russia for the first time in 50 years did not win a single gold medal in figure skating. Coach Elena Tchaikovskaya and many other experts said that Evgeni Plushenko lost the title of "Champion" at the fault of Piseyev: [Figure Skating] Federation did not do enough to protect our figure skater from the tyranny of the judges. In addition, Piseev was also blamed for the denial of Olympic accreditation to the coach Irina Zhuk of Russia's ice dancing duo Yana Khokhlova and Sergei Novitski.

Piseyev's more global failures were also remembered. Chief among them is the exodus of Russia's coaches abroad due to the fact that at home professionals were not given decent working conditions. Foreign students of Russian coaches in Vancouver were very successful, taking away Russia's skaters' precious medals. Also the functionary is traditionally blamed for giving too big a role in the Federation's decision-making to his wife - a specialist in ice dancing and arbitrator Alla Shekhovtsova. In addition, Piseev sanctioned the mass exodus of Russian skaters into television shows - some of which the Federation President himself did not hesitate to join to act as a referee.

Golden Age

It is unfair to represent Piseyev as a monster, who ruined Russia's infallible figure skating. Thanks to him or despite him, the reign of this functionary was a Golden Age for figure skating in Russia. For the first time in history [under Piseev's rule] Russia started to have competitive figure skaters, not only in ice dancing and pairs skating, but in singles skating too. At the Olympic Games 2006 in Turin, Russia's national team was close to wining in all four types of figure skating programs. But the momentum of the Soviet years could not sustain this sport forever, and Piseyev failed to adapt the Federation to new conditions. In addition to that, he showed complete incompetence in defending Russia's athletes' interests on the international arena.

However it may be, now the functionary [Piseyev] is being sent into retirement and this raises the interesting question of his successor. Figure skating is not a lucrative sport, but it is considered one of the most popular in Russia, so there will be no lack of candidates. Evgeni Plushenko is actively promoting to this post Anton Sikharulidze, the presiding head of Duma's Sports Committee and a former figure skater himself. "The main thing is that he should do the work. I believe the Federation should be headed by a young man, who knows foreign languages, has gone through the crucible of big-time sports, such as Sikharulidze, "- said Plushenko. "But in our country apart Sikharulidze there are a lot of young, charismatic leaders who've gone through the crucible of sport." So the fight for the prestigious post in the upcoming months is going to be serious.

- Was it difficult for you to make the decision not to participate in the World Cup?
- After the Olympics I wanted to make a program in which I intended to include two quadruple toe loop, but I overtrain ... I've just been in Turin and I drove past the Palavela, where I won the European Championships, Olympic Games. And do you think it was possible that I did not wanted to perform at the 100th World championship in my favorite city? Course I wanted. I feel a little offended when people say that I was afraid to go there. I waited till the last minute, practiced, but when out of ten attempts to perform a quadruple I only succeed in two ...

- Did the Federation put pressure on you, for you to compete?
- It was the verdict of doctors, stating that I can not put pressure on the right leg, that I cannot jump quadruples and triple axels. They put pressure on me at the 2005 World championship and it ended up with me having two surgeries on the inguinal rings, and I still did it, I had a shot, I skated on the QR and the short program. But now I didn't wanted to end my career over one championship.

- What will be your treatment?
- Naturally, I will ask for the best specialists, the ones that make operation of big athletes, from football and hockey. I will ask them to do everything that is possible so I can skate for another four years. I will make every effort to recover faster. On May 1st I will be meeting with doctors in Munich. I have a problem in my Achilles tendon, with the meniscus and with a cruciate ligament. But it is all reparable. I better do that now and I will perform at the Olympic Games in Sochi.

- Do you expect to succeed in four years?
- I understand that it would be insanely hard. Young athletes are growing up. You have Artur Dmitriev, Jr., who trains with Alexei Nikolaevich Mishin, he did three quadruple jumps yesterday. The sport is moving forward ... So I will not be easy. But I didn't skate for three and a half years and I know how to get better. Especially now, I will compete. We'll have new specialists, including for choreography. There will be new coaches for general physical training. I want to please people, and nobody will not stop me.

- What would you like to see on the new President of Russia figure skating?
- The main thing that the president fulfilled his duties with dignity, as we athletes do. But I think that the federation should lead the young man who knows the sport from the inside, who knows foreign languages. In my opinion, a good candidate will be Anton Sikharulidze ... A billion dollars is allocared for sports in Russia, that's a lot. When posited athletes such and such a sum, then it must reach them, as well as salaries for coaches should be decent. Why in 2007 I had to pay my operation at my own expense? And in 2005, my coach Alexei Mishin asked: "Please pay the accounts" You have to understand that I have a life too. But I want to have our young athletes have everything normal, so they have decent living conditions.

- How often do you see your son?
- Oh, I will tell you about my son with happiness! He is such an stunning child! In June, he will be four years old.Thank god, we see now every day. Now everything has changed. He started calling me uncle, as he was taught, but now he callms me daddy. He said ti me: "I do not want to go with my mother, I want to be with you." For me it was very sad when I came, and my son called me uncle.

- Will Egor follow your steps?
- No. I don't want thim to go into figure skating, it's such a hard sport. Although when he was two years, we put him on skates, and he not just walked, he ran on them! When he turns 4 I want him to do hocket and then when he turns 6, football. I want him to be a professional athlete. I think he has alll the preconditions to become one.

- Does your son carries your last name?
- I have not watched his birth certificate. On one hand, I do not want to be upset but on the other hand... Masha told me something recently "I have changed my last name to Plushenko", But I think she has not changed Egor's... But I'm happy that the ice in our relationship has broken.

- Are you going to "Eurovision"?
- No. That was another life and this one is another. I was invited, but I have no time, and no desire to either. I am not interested in show business. I'm completely focused on sports. I want to make a perfect program.

- Is it true that you are writing a second book?
- Yes, it will be more like a diary. I am constantly writing blogs, for example, when flying in an airplane. The book will have a lot of revelations. I have matured and I am ready to tell the truth. It will be quite strong.

- Where is your house now?
- I live around the world. My house are the planes and hotels.

-----------

In case you are asking, AFAIK, Egor has only been shown twice, when he turned 1 (and it was paparazzi pictures) and when he was 2, during Maria's second wedding.

This is a very blurry picture of Egor (unfortunately there aren't more), there were some paparazzi pics when he was 1 but they are no longer online and my PC is far from me

This is a picture of Maria's second marriage...

This is from blog Elena Vayteshovskaya... she is, well, I can say - Evgeni's "hater" :mi_ga_et:
Is this just her "wishes", or really heard these rumors in Turin, where she is currently, I do not know ... :ne_vi_del:

http://blog.sport-express.ru/users/vell ... 123589741/

From the latest gossip - nasty people in the ISU, want to prohibit Evgeni Plushenko skating in his own show tour.
They threatened to deprive him of amateur status ... then he not be able to perform on Sochi 2014th. They say that he should come to Turin, then they loved him and nothing forbid...

What is it with Weir, Lysacek ...? :du_ma_et: Them do not defend the performances on the shows? :ne_vi_del: :plush43:

I exactly think the same.At least Evgeni has a reason. His doctors didn't allow him to do quadrupple jumps.Does Evgeni has to show his doctor's report?

I wrote somewhere else too.ISU has some conspiracy towards Evgeni, because disqualification of him has no logic. This shows their hatred.Maybe, again that Frank Carroll or Lori Nichol offered this "disqualification" theory to ISU.
:plush43:

I think Russian Federation should support Evgeni this time.Otherwise... :plush27:

Ice show of Plushenko provoked scandal :plush29:

Taking part in yesterday's ice show may turn out for the Olympic figure skating champion Evgeni Plushenko with disqualification and banning for the season to participate in amateur competitions.

On the eve of the show, Figure Skating Federation of Russia sent a letter to the International Union of the skaters. :plush43: It says that referring to the medical report, which became a pretext for refusing Plushenko to take part in the World Championship, the National Federation did not agree to the performances of Petersburg skater in his show. From ISU office has been asked organizers. After all, without the permission of the National Federation no existing skater does not have the right to act in such representations. Here are on the ice, Plushenko still left. And, thus, consciously or not, went to the worsening relations with the National Federation. Coach Alexei Mishin, of course, will be stands solidly on the side of his ward....

-----------------------------------------------

... and they send a letter to the ISU, instead to send a letter to Plushenko's? ... the perfect solution for them! :ps_ih:

What kind of "worsening relation" with the Federation?! :plush29: It's worsening relations with the vindictive, already dismissed the president of Federation Piseev's! :plush43:

... and as I say on other topic: In my country, would be shortly and clearly say for those, who from their own personal malice revenge to own Olympic champion, and with thereby and their own country, said: TRAITORS! :ze_le_ny:
