I'd like to share this positive feedback to all Plushy fans. If possible, I hope Zhenya also will read it one day. Even though not all of comments are fully positive, I'm very happy that I can say his recent effort certainly reached even people who are not his fan!! :a_g_a:

Please don't spoil their free conversation, even if you want to say something. They are not Zhenya fans. *shhh* :-)
The Plushenko Factor

Folks on FSU have posted links to some recent Plushenko exhibition skates.

This one is exhibition version of his SP (same as last year):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hP99ke6JaQ (from Dec 11)

IMO his hands, arms look softer and his shoulder carriage more balletic than I remember.

I have forgotten, under COP is 4T-3T combo plus solo 3F worth more, less or the same as 3F-3T plus solo 4T? (The jumps all look to come before the bonus.)

Two exhibition versions of his FS:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQkc1OSJIsc 9 (from Dec 11)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8X8fQK-Io7A (from October)

Now I am totally baffled. I was never a fan of Plushenko's skating, but I enjoyed watching these a lot. I wonder how much of that is really liking these classical music selections and the traditional fast-slow-fast pacing of the program.

Those overstyled Japanese guys are good, but their choreo looks awfully forced and contrived compared to this. There is just something about the ease and elegance with which he moves over the ice. He has carriage and command that clearly say "I am a champion." So many of the other top guys just say "I have some talent and am trying really hard."

The Dec 11 performance was to a live violin! She came on the ice for a bow. So he was skating to live music. That seems to be very original. at least in classical music.

I liked this. I always liked Plushenko, especially when he was a skinny little kid, but I didn't like his later programs. A Plushenko comeback sounded ridiculous, but maybe not.

Though I do love those cute Japanese kids, Daisuke is the only one who seems to have intensity.

As far as I know, there's no difference in the point value between the different combos. The only advantage to doing a 4T combo is that you can then also do a solo 4T.

Your comments on Plushy's evolving style are interesting. I've seen that kind of progression in a lot of skaters as they mature, sometimes during their competitive career and sometimes afterwards. They seem to form a deeper connection and become more integrated from head to blade -- as if after years of battling the ice they come to understand that what's so special and unique to skating is the relationship between the skater and the ice. Their skating smooths out and becomes more elegant as they pare away excess movements to reveal the essence of skating. An extreme example it that Dorothy Hamil is still performing -- because the purity of her skating is still enjoyable and moving.

I'm a little surprised that Plushenko is undergoing this transition -- I guess I've always thought of him as a skater who looks outward for his motivation and inspiration, and not inward.

Plushy has worked this season for the first time with P. Camerlengo and that ought to make a difference:
"Besides, I want to reveal a secret. Maybe someone already knows... I worked with Pasquale Camerlengo, an amazing Italian choreographer. He created programs for many athletes last year and is one of the best figure skating choreographer. I like him very much, he is a superb choreographer, and he puts his life into his work"

I am sure he'll try everything to have winner type of programs for Sochi (artistically), at this moment the question mark is how his health will live up to his goal, to get a 4th consecutive Olympic medal.

I agree the shoulders and arms appear to be more fluid. However, in the fast section, there's still too much frantic arm-waving. One thing I notice is the much improved spins that are fast and nicely centered, and his carriage and presence are superb, as usual. I'm always partial to classical music for the LP, but his programs has three different pieces that don't seem to mesh very well. All the jumps are easier triples, so it's hard to tell if he will be up to doing two quads and one 3A, or one quad and two 3As next year (which a winning program must have), considering his age, health and long lay-off. The Japanese guys and Chan have been used to doing this for a while now.

He didn't compete for three years, but as soon as I saw him, I knew that there was a true Olympic Champion on the ice. - Takahiko Kozuka, Rostelecom Cup 2009

I just saw Plushy’s exhibition skate from Slovakia and WOW!.
He is much better than last year at the Europeans! He is faster, the edges are deeper and I adore the way he moves his hands.
It is the first time since 2006 when I am being enthusiastic about one of Plushy’s programs. In fact the more I watch it, the more I like it.
The music is divine, Plush - just so graceful and balletic and the program is neither too empty nor too busy ( I hope it will not be watered down! ).
I love the fact that, with this program, Evgeni really looks different to all the other top skaters, in a very good way. Who is the choreographer?
