French figure skater Joubert on the mend: coach

Former world figure skating champion Brian Joubert is on the mend after undergoing foot surgery, his coach Laurent Depouilly said on Tuesday.

Joubert, who last month won the NHK Trophy in Japan, suffered the injury in training a week ago and was forced out of the ISU Grand Prix final in Tokyo from December 3-6.

But Depouilly said the 25-year-old Frenchman was on the road to recovery as he bids to be fit for the Winter Olympics in February.

"Everything is going well. Brian is still resting. He's on the road to recovery. The swelling has gone down on his foot compared to after the operation," said Depouilly.

Joubert suffered a similar injury in February 2007, again in training, but needed just four days on the sidelines on that occasion.
He then went on to lift the world title a month later.

"The rate of recovery is better than the last time in 2007," his coach said. "Now his big toe is bothering him more than the injury itself but his morale is good."

Lambiel's interview on German language:

"I cannot give everything any more"
Lambiel radiates inner strength - despite the fragile physique

The Swiss figure skater Stéphane Lambiel has thrown himself into the Olympic adventure, even when his body is showing the limits. With charisma and good timing, it could go well. Even if he says: "On the ice, I simply must go through the pain and try to forget it."

Reports from the training of an Olympic-favorite should sound different. "I'm sorry that I cannot bring better news,“ says Peter Grütter, after he had spent in Lausanne an early morning training session with Stéphane Lambiel. In the words of the coach, who works with this exceptional talent from Valais already 15 years, sounds concern. "We must work very carefully and always look, which just goes," he says. The body of 24-year-old figure skater, the 2005 and 2006 world champion, allows now no more power training. The pain caused by adductor injury, what forced him to withdraw a year ago is now „under the control“, said he by the comeback in the late summer. But who has whom in the handle, it can not be so easy to decide - Lambiel the pain or the pain Lambiel?

With insecure feeling approach I Basel for a meeting with him. He will attend there a photoshoot on the Rhine with ex-Playmate Christina Surer, the moderator of Eisgala Basel. It’s gonna be his only show appearance before the Olympics. Does someone and his fans build a pipe dream, far from the reality of competitive sport?

Overflowing praise

But then I sit opposite a young man, who has no illusions and yet radiates inner strength. "Before the last Olympics, I knew no boundaries. Now the situation is quite different: I cannot give everything any more,“ he says. In any training, he had to listen to your body and he needs know it’s limits. He declares with surprise, that he practically cannot practice his parade element, the spin any more.

And yet, "Lambiel combined spin was the best, the craziest and the most beautiful that I get to see in my whole 65-year-old figure skating experience," has wrote after the Olympic qualifying competition in late September in Oberstdorf Sepp Schönmetzler, expert in his field. Lambiel's first appearance after his impressive comeback proved for what is ha capable in a decisive moment.

"If the elements are mastered with that kind accomplishment, as he does, you don’t need to work them out again and again,“ says Salomé Brunner. The choreographer is the most important partner for Lambiel, when you need to speak about development of his programs. She feels with every fiber his fragility. Everything now depends on timing. He cannot show any more top performance during the whole season. But on 16th and 18th of February, on the days of short program and free skating in Vancouver, everything must fit in.

In Canada Lambiel spent just four weeks, but not in the Olympic city, but in Toronto. Originally, it was said, that he was there for trainings. But practically he didn’t spend almost no time on the ice. The physiotherapist Marla Pichler has worked extensively with him and with his body. Since then he is not pain-free any more. "On the ice, I must simply go through the pain and try to forget it. If you want it, it can be possible," he says. You can’t see here any more fiery daredevils of his early days, when he angrily practiced again and again quads on the ice. Today, he has to calculate the risk and build his programs very carefully and strategically.

But in Toronto he was not only laid up, but got also inspiration. He was inspired by rehearsals and performances of ballet, opera and shows. „I feel myself very associated with those actors who also go through great sacrifice," he says. He could do the same on the ice. His "Tell" short program is already something special. With this has Lambiel also proven to be one of the greatest artists of his sport. But his long program – "Tango" falls short of this class. After swiss championships on 11/12th December in Lugano and before European Championships he could do something with it. We can only wonder whether it is Tchaikovsky or something from "Cirque du Soleil". ( :sh_ok: he will change "Tango"? :ne_vi_del: )

Orser’s training group

In spite of his ice-absence, for the sensitive ice-artist was important to be integrated in the training group of Brian Orser in Cricket Club of Toronto. There trains also Korean Yu-Na Kim, the favorite among the women. But he should perhaps not take Brian Orser too much of a role model. The Canadian was taken again to 1988 Olympic Games, having won silver medal four years earlier. But Orser lost the legendary "Battle of the Brians" very close to the american Brian Boitano and it was really painful loss for him.

It does not scare Lambiel. "It's so exciting to experience this adventure again. If it works, it's a wonderful satisfaction. If not, it was still important and a right thing to try it."

ISU Grand Prix and Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, Day 2
04 Dec 2009

Takahashi (JPN) edges World Champion Lysacek (USA) in the Men’s Short

Daisuke Takahashi proved in the Men’s Short Program that he is back after missing the whole past season due to injury. The 23-year-old was on fire in his program to a modern Tango named “Eye” and edged out reigning World Champion Evan Lysacek (USA) by just 0.10 points to capture the lead. Takahashi nailed a triple flip-triple toe, a triple Axel and Lutz and his footwork was crisp. He posted a new personal best of 89.95 points, getting close to Evgeni Plushenko’s (RUS) record score of 90.66 points from the 2006 Olympic Winter Games.

But Lysacek stayed in the hunt for the title with a superb interpretation of “Firebird” that included a triple Axel, triple Flip, triple Lutz-triple toe and his trademark fast and well centered spins.

“I was very nervous during the warm up since I hadn’t competed with the top skaters last season. But in today’s performance, I didn’t think about what my rivals were doing. The performance today wasn’t ideal but I’m in good condition in the Final and I feel I’m achieving my ideal performance step by step”, Takahashi commented.

“Technically I’m the best I’ve ever been. I haven’t pulled out all my tricks yet”, Lysacek revealed. “For the last two sesaons, I’ve been trying to break 85 (points). I think the closest I’ve come was 83 and 84. So to not just break it, but to go up to almost 90 points, is really a great improvement for me, and I think it’s reflected a lot in the components score. I’ve been working so hard technically making these elements so strong, not just execute them”, he continued.

Nobunari Oda (JPN) made it a successful day for team Japan with his third-place finish and another flawless program with excellent jumps. He, too, earned a new personal best at 87.65 points. “I’m happy with my performance today. I was very nervous because I was the last skater. I knew Daisuke and Evan had gotten high marks, but I just tried to focus on what I had to do. I was confident“, Oda said.

Johnny Weir (USA) placed fourth with a clean program. Defending Grand Prix Champion Jeremy Abbott (USA) came in fifth after missing the triple Lutz.

The first four skaters have exceeded marks, which Plushy get at the "Rostelecom Cup". :du_ma_et:

All agree, even and fans from the west, that TES scores is to all skaters too high, considering that almost no one has jumped quad :sh_ok:

Takashaki has a very good and sumptuous program, with "rich" choreography (transition, spins, steps...). :co_ol: He almost reached Plushy's record from the Olympics, even and without quadruple jump!
Lysacek has undeservedly received too high PCS scores... The only skater who jumped the quad is Verner, and he is not well passed. :ne_vi_del:

Seems, that judges are getting ready to "shoot down" all Plushy's records :plush34: ... Need only to see, whether will Plushy succeed to "prevent", with those that he alone - break his own records! :plush45: :-)

... but, scores for components are still overvalued, because they are some kind of "pandas" for good technical scores, which most skaters can not be reached, because the lack of physical predisposition, or simply - laziness. :plush43: Everything is slowly turning into one big "ice show" :plush34: ... even and some women are jump some jumps, which some men "can not" - Yu-Na Kim, Mao Asada... :kli_ny:

Personal best puts Lysacek a close second in Grand Prix Final

Naperville's Evan Lysacek improved his personal best by more than five points to finish a close second in Friday's short program of the Grand Prix Final in Tokyo.

Lysacek, the reigning world champion, scored 89.85, leaving him one-tenth of a point behind Daisuke Takahashi of Japan. His previous best was 84.06 in 2008.
Takahashi (89.95) and Lysacek, who had just one minor bobble, on adeath drop, now have the second and third highest scores in history, trailing only the 90.66 by Russia's Evgeny Plushenko in winning the2006 Olympics.

Johnny Weir of the U.S. wasfourth at 84.60, his personal best by more than three points. ReigningU.S. champion Jeremy Abbott fell on a triple lutz and was a distantfifth.

--------------------------------------------

Personal bests shattered in Tokyo, Takahashi and Lysacek in a virtual tie for the lead

2007 World silver medalist Daisuke Takahashi and current World champion Evan Lysacek are currently separated by a tenth of a point going into the free skate at the Grand Prix Final. The quality of skating in the men’s short was extremely high. Even without quads, the top four men scored in the 80s and all earned personal best scores, giving them four of the highest short program scores of the season.

Home crowd favorite Takahashi continued his comeback from an injury that took him out of the entire last season with a short program that earned the leading score of the season. He did not include a quad, but his three jumping passes were executed cleanly. His dynamic performance ignited the crowd and earned him an 89.95, just shy of the world record set by Evgeni Plushenko at the 2006 Olympics.

Lysacek is building momentum toward the Olympics with his flawless short program effort that earned him a personal best score, just 0.10 shy of Takahashi’s score. Lysacek and Takahashi received identical total Program Components Scores from the judges. The free skate will come down to the skater who can put together the cleanest and most difficult program, and if either makes an error, there will be two more skaters right behind who are ready to overtake them.

In third and fourth are Nobunari Oda and Johnny Weir, who both turned in superb performances that were their best of the season. Though their short programs are vastly different in style, both skaters showcased their trademark soft landings that are some of the best in the competition, Their scores of 87.65 and 84.60, respectively, put them within striking distance of the gold medal going into the free skate.

The third American in the field, defending Grand Prix Final champion Jeremy Abbott, had a shaky short program. He turned out of the triple axel and fell on the triple lutz. The strength of the four skaters above him will most likely prevent him from repeating his win this week.

2008 European champion Tomas Verner was the only skater to attempt a quad, which he landed cleanly in combination with a triple toe. But he made mistakes on his other jumping passes and on one of his footwork sequences, putting him in sixth place with a 70.17.

----------------------------------------------------

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D9...&show_article=1

... Takahashi put himself into position for a berth at next February's Vancouver Olympics, scoring a personal best 89.95 points to edge out American Evan Lysacek.

Takahashi, who missed the whole of last season due to major surgery on his right knee, opened with a triple-flip, triple-toeloop combination before going on to complete a near flawless skate at Yoyogi national gymnasium.

Reigning world champion Lysacek scored 89.85 while Japan's Nobunari Oda was in third place with 87.65.

"That was my best performance since my comeback," said Takahashi, who was second at Skate Canada last month after finishing fourth at the NHK Trophy.

"Getting good scores from the judges boosts my confidence. I am gradually getting closer to a place at the Olympics."

Takahashi's score was just 0.71 point outside the short program world record held by Turin Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko of Russia.

Oda, who earned his place in the six-man final after winning the Trophee Bompard and the Cup of China, said, "As the final skater I have never felt so much pressure so I am glad I was able to keep a cool head."

"I believe I will be okay in the free skate if I perform with the confidence I have gained from the two events I won this season." ....

To me considers and exaggeration with PCS scores ... but now, with these high TES grades :plush30: - actually, they have already overcome themselves. It is obvious, and those who do not know well skating, like me :plush34:
