when i read this story, promptly i had a tip.
This is not good, not good.Alysonshade wrote:

alysonshade wrote:Even worse. This statement will start the hunt for the "JW's clandestine lover". There will not be a single journalist or just a curious who will not wonder himself, looking at every skater in the world: "Maybe this one? Perhaps the other one?". As for me, I don't like this kind of "sport".

Johnny Weir No Longer Skating Around the Gay Thing
Johnny Weir has a memoir coming out soon called "Welcome to My World" and savvy marketing chap that he is, he's promoting it by leaking/selling excerpts to People magazine. The big news (or non-news) is that Weir finally, explicitly comes out as gay:

alysonshade wrote:Me too, Lala. I really dislike all this business. Once, JW acted dumb about his sexuality, then he said he's bisexual, after which he "confessed" to be gay. Now he says: "I love my life and accept myself. What's wrong with being unique? I am proud of everything that I am and will become." But he also admitted that: "A lot of the gays got downright angry about my silence." In my opinion, silence and pride are not words that go together well.
Now he says he's "proud", but he has been silent so far, even denying the obvious (read the comments below the article, one of them says: "Tomorrow the shocking news is revealed that rain is wet!").
), but I do like Johnny, I find him fun and lovable. I'm curious, does he ever blatantly denied he was gay and assured he was straight?sarahjev wrote:.... Here in my country there is this gossip tv show, the host is apparently gay, I say "apparently" because he has the usual hints (somewhat effeminated, not married or having a known partner, and so), but he had never accepted any identity, he's always talking about tolerance, but at the same time he's extremely aggressive, calling almost anyone "faggot", "closeted gay", "furious lesbian", etc., excusing a joke, and also saying that "x or y should out himself, because everyone knows about him/her"...
... everything else does not affect me.

I don't think Johnny Weir is a "proud gay", he played coy too long, and I guess a lot of people are angry with him just because of it, not because of his homosexuality: no one likes to be teased, and seeing someone playing coy about such an obvious thing may produce some ironic comments. There are a lot of hidden gays who have more discreet behaviors, and nobody go to ask them "what are you?".
Said this, I don't care about him: speaking about sports, I'm a fan of Plushenko; speaking about my private life, I'm a woman attracted to heterosexual men.
The only interesting thing about JW's statements, for me, is the involvement of another person in his coming-out. That's all.

I also like the genuine friendship that Johnny and Zhenya have towards each other, because that shows Evgeni has an open mind and don't let himself be fooled by the ignorance and prejudices of others, many would evite Johnny for the fear of being called gay too, but he doesn't, and that makes him even more admirable for me.
.... with that he showed more courage and guts, than many "macho" skaters!
