http://www.examiner.com/figure-skating- ... rt-programLive play-by-play coverage: Skate Canada men's short programQUAD COUNT: 2 attempted, 1 clean (Fernandez)
Daisuke Takahashi JPN - triple flip-triple toe (good start), triple axel (smooth), steps into triple lutz (works it like it was just part of a full-on step sequence) - really like that he's showing his range with a less flashy short than we are accustomed to seeing, well-skated, everything was well-executed and strong - TES 42.41, PCS 42.25, SP TOTAL 84.66
Patrick Chan CAN - Take Five - almost lost his footing right before the quad toe (hand down, step out), double axel, triple lutz-triple toe (nice), the program is definitely like a familiar coat for him, but he was way on his heel on (I think it was) a forward outside rocker right before his quad toe and about took a spill, good that he was able to stay on his feet or else that would've been a disaster - TES 40.38, PCS 42.90, SP TOTAL 83.28
Kevin Van Der Perren BEL - and the Feeling Begins ... again, then a little Cirque - double axel, triple flip-triple toe to the side boards, steps into triple lutz, looks stronger than he did at Skate America last week ... too bad about the axel - TES 31.86, PCS 32.15, SP TOTAL 64.01
Adam Rippon USA - steps into Rippon lutz (nice), long setup into triple axel (foot down, but better than a fall), triple flip-triple toe (tight on the edge out), program built toward the end, especially after the jumps were done - TES 36.61, PCS 36.28, SP TOTAL 72.89
Alexander Majorov SWE - Austin Powers - triple axel (beautifully landed), triple lutz-double toe, steps into triple flip (turn out) - TES 33.36, PCS 31.78, SP TOTAL 65.14
Javier Fernandez ESP - a Spaniard skating to "I Love Paris," quad toe (!!), triple lutz-triple toe, triple axel (well done), nice cross-foot spin there, he's always been one for the showmanship, and I think the switch from Morozov to Orser really helped his overall skating - TES 45.60, PCS 39.11, SP TOTAL 84.71
Andrei Rogozine CAN - triple flip-triple toe (very nice and steady), spread eagle into triple axel (just hangs on), steps into triple lutz (nice), a really nice intensity in that program - this kid's got deceptive power, love that spread eagle-triple axel - TES 35.68, PCS 31.60, SP TOTAL 67.28
Denis Ten KAZ - triple axel (super, until he caught an edge and had to put his hand down), triple flip-triple toe, steps into triple lutz (smooth), very musical step sequence to end, always looks very insular which makes it tough to get the crowd behind him - TES 38.94, PCS 33.46, FALL -1.00, SP TOTAL 71.40
Ross Miner USA - lots of speed into ... single axel (slipped off the edge and got no height at all), triple lutz-double toe (slow on the landing of the lutz), nice sequence of spread eagles, steps into triple flip (nice) - TES 29.62, PCS 31.21, SP TOTAL 60.83
Elladj Balde CAN - Malaguena and assorted flamencos - triple flip-triple toe (foot down and turn out), triple axel (fall), steps into triple lutz (nice edge ride out), practically goes all the way back to the original side of the rink during the step sequence ... and then back again - TES 28.82, PCS 28.17, FALL -1.00, SP TOTAL 55.99
